Development of Catholic Healthcare integrated facility underway

Catholic Healthcare has begun construction of a $120 million integrated aged care and retirement living development on its existing McQuion Park site in Waitara on Sydney’s Upper North Shore.
The finished site will include a residential aged care facility, retirement living units, a health and wellness centre, on-site respite services, community support and dementia-friendly spaces. Lifestyle and homelike features of the design include a chapel, café, playground and several communal dining and living spaces.
Catholic Healthcare’s general manager of residential care Anne Maree Hodgson said the site would offer a high standard of aged care services to the seniors of the region.
“The private bedrooms with ensuites will be roomy enough for families to gather, plus there will also be lounge and sitting rooms, activities areas and a chapel for communal gatherings. And the retirement village will offer living solutions for seniors who wish to live an active and social lifestyle,” she said.
A sod-turning ceremony on Wednesday marked commencement of the new build. Completion of the first stage is due mid next year, and overall by 2020.
Scalabrini appoints contractor for next phase of Drummoyne facility

Scalabrini Village has appointed construction company Hansen Yuncken to manage the building of its new $50 million specialist aged care facility for people living dementia in Drummoyne in Sydney’s inner-west.
The new facility, due for completion in December 2017, will include accommodation for 157 residents and an underground car park for 70 vehicles.
In line with the organisation’s Italian heritage, the design of the facility features a central piazza with a café, general store, gelataria, barber and hair salon, olive groves, a vegetable patch, a landscaped garden, art and library facilities, dance, musical and theatrical performance spaces, a wellness centre and a chapel.
Scalabrini Village CEO Chris Rigby said the new facility would enhance the quality of life of its residents and set new benchmarks for residential aged care facilities across Australia.
IRT gets approval for new senior housing development

IRT is developing a new seniors housing community at Kanahooka featuring 100 self-contained homes and resident recreational facilities.
The $35-million development, which will be located on land adjacent to IRT William Beach Gardens, will include a community garden for residents to grow vegetables for each street of six to eight dwellings, as well as parking.
IRT Group chief strategy officer Stig Andersen said more affordable and age-appropriate housing was needed to cater for the expected 30 per cent increase in the number of over-65s living in the Illawarra region by 2026.
“IRT’s new community at Kanahooka will do just that, offering high-quality, custom-designed single-storey living at affordable prices,” he said.
The site, which is close to Lake Illawarra, will have a coastal feel and the communal open spaces with a pavilion in each of the site’s five precincts would provide gathering, socialising and activity spaces for residents, he said.
Construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2016.
$150 million makeover for Uniting Mayflower Westmead
Uniting Mayflower Westmead will undergo a $150 million redevelopment
NSW provider Uniting has announced it will redevelop and add to its Mayflower Westmead residential aged care facility in a project worth over $150 million.
The new development will include state-of-the-art residential aged care services, 227 new independent living units and communal indoor and outdoor spaces for residents and their families.
The work will be completed in three stages to allow residential aged care residents to remain in their current accommodation during development.
Director of ageing at Uniting Steve Teulan said the redevelopment would allow Uniting to offer contemporary services for the Westmead community well into the future.
First works are scheduled for early 2017.
