South Australian aged care provider Life Care is pursuing a busy redevelopment and expansion program.

The not-for-profit provider recently announced plans to demolish and redevelop its Joslin Campus outside of Adelaide CBD.

The redeveloped facility will cater for 96 beds in stage 1 and 30 independent living units, 14 serviced apartments and a community area in stage 2.

The design includes dementia-specific innovations that have arisen through a partnership with the Dementia Services Development Centre at Stirling University in the UK.

The project has moved to the demolition and construction phase, and it’s hoped the new facility will be open by late 2017.

Meanwhile, Life Care and Pedare Christian College have announced a partnership that will see the creation of a new integrated living community.

The development will include 78 independent living units, 24 serviced apartments and an 80-bed residential aged care facility.

The $60 million Life Care investment over the coming years will incorporate allied health services, a café, hairdresser and other lifestyle activities, the organisation said.

It is anticipated that the college and Life Care will incorporate school learning options in food technology, allied health and aged care. The development proposal has been sent to Tea Tree Gully Council.

PAC plans major refit of Ashleigh Lodge

PAC Thornleigh

Presbyterian Aged Care has announced its Thornleigh facility, known as Ashleigh Lodge, will undergo a $17 million refurbishment and expansion.

Hornsby Council approved the redevelopment of the existing 54-bed aged care facility in early August. When completed the facility will house 67 residents and provide enhanced services such as dementia care.

PAC said the refurbishment included the creation of larger private rooms with ensuites in the existing building and the development of additional rooms on an expanded footprint on two adjacent properties. The new design would provide a more elegant and contemporary atmosphere, it said.

New features would include common lounges, a landscaped courtyard, large dining area, hair salon, activities room, outdoor balconies, BBQ and gazebo, interactive garden and a large conservatory for relaxation.

Initial work will commence at the end of the year, with completion expected to take 18 months.

Baptcare opens Strathalan facility

Baptcare’s new Strathalan facility is now home to 124 residents

Baptcare has opened its Strathalan residential aged care facility following the completion of a major state-of-the art upgrade and expansion.

Previously accommodating 90 residents, the aged care facility has been rebuilt and expanded to offer 124 beds.

Strathalan, Baptcare’s flagship community, was founded in 1945 by members of the Victorian Baptist Womens Association.

The organisation said it approached the design of the new facility with a strong focus on connections. The facility enhances the connection residents have with nurses, carers and with each other, and the connections that family members have with their loved ones, it said.

As part of the redevelopment, 49 independent living villas and 67 apartments will also be completed in the coming years.

Benetas has opened the doors to its St Paul’s Terrace in Frankston South, its latest development on the Mornington Peninsula to display a fresh approach to aged care.

It is the second Benetas development that combines individualised care with state-of-the-art facilities, following from the opening of Benetas Corowa Court Aged Care Apartments in July.

The work that began at the Benetas Corowa Court Aged Care Apartments is based on person-centered and relationship-focused care in a homelike environment, the provider said.

The St Paul’s Terrace facility provides specialised dementia and memory loss support, pastoral care and palliative care.

Features of the new facility include a beauty salon, movie theatre, library and a café.
