Among the many highlights of ITAC 2025 conference, says Ageing Australia’s chief technology advisor and ITAC legend Dr Margelis were the presentations of futurist Dr Catherine Ball for its “great insight into the potentials of technology in aged care” and the many providers talking about the realities of aged care.
These include Whiddon chief infrastructure manager Regan Stathers and Dr Nic Woods from Calvary Health Care discussing their respective digital transformation stories, including challenges and learnings.
“The key goal here is how do we merge those two – the potential and the realities –into something which delivers better services for older Australians,” Dr Margelis told Australian Ageing Agenda at the event in Melbourne.
On approach to 1 July and a new era of aged care, Dr Margelis said there was a continued need to support the development of technology locally but an even greater need for providers, vendors and developers to shift to innovation.
“How do we use this technology to provide more effective efficient care? And that’s really going to be the exciting part going forward,” said Dr Margelis.
“So InnovAGEING – the organisation within Ageing Australia which focuses on innovation – will be driving that agenda [and] getting people to demonstrate innovation, which will enable us to scale the care as we need it.”
