Anglicare Sydney residents bust ageism myths

The new seniors living site Woolooware Shores by Anglicare Sydney celebrated the final release of waterfront residences with the launch of anti-ageism documentary Unashamedly Old… But Won’t Be Told.

Produced in consultation with Kirk Docker – producer of the ABC series You Can’t Ask That – the documentary involved 14 residents from various Anglicare Sydney retirement villages being asked live questions. The documentary featured cheerful responses to questions about ageism, companionship, romance, technology, current affairs and life’s treasures.

A screening of the documentary took place on 20 March.

For 74-year-old Woolooware Shores resident Sharon Taylor age is irrelevant.

“80 is the new 60. 70 is the new 50. This is a very real thing. We’re an ageing population but we look around the village and even the 90-year-olds are getting involved in activities. We’re all doing things to keep our minds and our bodies active – it works,” she said.

The Woolooware Shores village is located in Taren Point and offers premium residences that embrace long-term adaptability so that residents can age in place.

Also set to open in late 2025 is the Mediterranean inspired waterfront restaurant Heirloom, which will be accessible to residents and the wider public.

The Unashamedly Old… But Won’t Be Told documentary is available to watch on the Woolooware Shores website.
