New APIs available for better data sharing

At this week’s monthly tech talk the Department of Health and Aged Care has reminded attendees that the current caretaker period is limiting their statements to factual issues and matters of administration.

However, it was noted at Wednesday’s webinar that the department would continue the planned trajectory through caretaker period as the processes were considered administrative implementation under a program already endorsed by both the government and the opposition.

The webinar covered the digital transformation roadmap, the Health Systems Developer Portal, the B2G Developer Portal, digital maturity and digital impacts for 1 July.

Since the previous tech talk in February, changes were made to both the Government Provider Management System and business to government environments, chief digital and information officer Fay Flevaras said, with much of the release supporting regulatory reporting.

The quality indicators have also been updated, with the adoption of restrictive practises terminology in GPMS and the enhancement of the operational date to be consistent with the new regulations.

The B2G quality indicator APIs have also had the terms physical restraint updated to restrictive practices.

Ms Flevaras said this API update meant there will be a seamless data flow from providers to GPMS via the API if they choose whilst still adhering to the latest standards and requirements.

Ms Flevaras reminded providers that the APIs were available now and encouraged them to reach out to their software vendors to ask if they could connect through the APIs.

She said the department is also implementing foundational changes to ICT capabilities and support of the Australian government’s aged care referral program – which they recognise is a substantial change for the aged care sector.

Ms Flevaras pointed to the department’s release of the digital roadmap as part of this staged implementation of changes in preparation of the new Aged Care Act – which outlines the delivery of the ICT capabilities through stages in April, July and October.

These stages enable the department to prioritise the design and delivery and testing of each of the ICT components prior to being released for provider and consumer use.

The webinar also provided information on Services Australia’s Health Systems Developer Portal and the B2G Developer Portal – which belongs to the department – including:

  • the types of documentation found in these portals
  • the differences between the portals
  • the requirements to access Services Australia Health Systems Developer Portal
  • what you’ll find in the Health Systems Developer Portal
  • frequently asked questions.

Providers were reminded that the provider portal and the developer portal were different services.

Meanwhile, home care providers were reminded that home care budgets would not map to any of the eight new Support at Home ongoing classifications.

A recording of the webinar will be available on the department’s website soon.

The department also apologised to those who were put on the waiting list for the February webinar but were then unable to access it, explaining there was a technical issue that meant they hit a limit to how many could attend. This issue has since been fixed and more than 500 people attended the live webinar on 2 April.
